Water supply network within the underground mine

WATER SUPPLY NETWORK WITHIN THE UNDERGROUND MINE (EN: mine water pipeline, mine water conduit; DE: interirdische Wasserleitung; FR: conduite d'eau souterraine; ES: tuberia de agua en la mina; RU: водопровод шахтный) is the system of the pipelines, which are providing the delivery of the water for the dust suppression devices, and for the containment and extinguishing of the underground fires. The construction of the water supply network within the underground mine is obligatory.

They install the pipelines, as a rule, united, and the whole system forms the firefighting-irrigation water supply network, which must be permanently filled with the water under the pressure. The water supply networks within the underground mine may be of the dead end type, or may be of the ring type. If the scheme of the mine workings permits, then they construct the water supply network within the underground mine as the network of the ring type, in order to ensure the continuous water supply even in the case of the failure of one of the sections of the pipeline. Under the conditions of the perennial permafrost, they lay the water supply network within the major mine workings as the network of the ring type, with the continuously circulating water, which is heated to the temperature, which is excluding the freezing of this water, or with the brine of the table salt.

The network of the water supply pipelines within the underground mine workings comprises the trunk and local lines (the diameter is at least 100 millimetres). The water supply network within the underground mine is equipped with the firefighting hydrants, the pressure of the water within which during the extinguishing of the fire must be 0.6-1.5 megapascals, while within the slopes and inclined drifts, the pressure must be at most 2 megapascals. For the creation of the necessary pressure within the pipelines of the excavation places within the inclined drift field, if necessary, there are constructed the boosting pump stations. For the switching of the individual sections of the water supply pipeline, there are installed the gate valves on all the branches of the water supply pipelines with the quantity of the firefighting hydrants of more than one; at the water supply pipelines, which are having no branches, they install the gate valves with the intervals of 400 metres.

The delivery of the water into the cleaning stopes is performed through the rubber-textile hoses and temporary pipelines, which are made of the water supply pipes, which are connected to the water supply network within the underground mine. The ends of the pipelines of the water supply network within the underground mine are distanced from the stopes of the preparatory mine workings for at most 20 metres. The water is delivered from the surface of the underground mine into the mine workings, as a rule, from the special reservoir through the pipelines, using the free gravitational flow. For the decreasing of the excessive pressure, in case of the depth of up to 200 metres, there are used the unloading reservoirs, while in case of the depth of more than 200 metres, there are used the hydraulic reductors, which are installed at each horizon. The volume of the water within this reservoir is determined according to the calculation for the delivery of this water for the extinguishing of the underground fire during 3 hours, but this volume must be at least 300 cubic metres for the newly designed underground mines, and 250 cubic metres for the underground mines, which are in operation.
