Underground dump truck
UNDERGROUND DUMP TRUCK (EN: underground hauler; DE: Grubenselbstkipper; FR: camion-benne pour travaux souterrains; ES: camion basculante para trabajos subterraneos; RU: автосамосвал подземный) is the load carrying automobile with the self-unloading dump body, which is used for the transportation of the rock mass through the underground workings with the angle of the inclination of up to 10-12 degrees.
The underground dump trucks on the basis of the ordinary dump trucks, which have been equipped with the (scrubbers) cleaners of the exhaust gases, have started to be used for the underground works in the USA in the 1950s. They distinguish the underground dump trucks with the tilting dump body, and with the telescopically advancing device, which provides the unloading through the (tailgate) rear side of the truck body.
The underground dump trucks are distinguished by the small height (up to 2.5 metres), small turning radius, good maneuverability; the engines are equipped with the (scrubbers) cleaners and neutralizers of the exhaust gases. The certain types of the underground dump trucks are equipped with the dual steering controls. They are using in the USSR the MoAZ-6401-985 underground dump trucks with the tilting dump body, the load carrying capacity of 20 tonnes, and the diesel engine with the power of 147 kilowatts; the productivity is about 300 tonnes per shift for the distance of the transportation of 400-600 metres. The new types of the domestic underground dump trucks with the load carrying capacity of up to 35 tonnes are being developed.
There are used abroad the underground dump trucks with the load carrying capacity of 12-45 tonnes, which are produced by the companies "Joy" (USA), "Mining Transportion" (Sweden), "Blaw-Knox Comp." (France), etc. The work is underway for the creation of the low-toxicity engines for the underground dump trucks.
