Emergency ventilation operation
EMERGENCY VENTILATION OPERATION in the mine (EN: emergency ventilation operation; DE: Notbewetterung, Notbewetterungsbetrieb; FR: regime d'aerage de secours; ES: regimen de ventilacion de emergencial; RU: аварийный режим вентиляции) is the complex set of the activities for the ventilation of the mine or the individual mine workings in the events of the accidents (mine fires, the sudden outbursts of the dust, rocks and gases, the explosions of the gas and dust, the collapse of the rocks, etc.).
The purpose of the emergency ventilation operation is the securing the safety of the people, who have been caught up in the mine by the accident, the localization of the centre of the accident, the termination of its development (the spreading of the fire through the mine workings, the build up of the explosive gases, etc.).
The emergency ventilation operation depends on the nature of the accident, the place of its origin, the intensity of its development, the procedure for the withdrawal of the people from the underground workings, the possibility of the approach to the place of the accident for its elimination, the availability and the condition of the means of the regulation of the air flows.
The emergency ventilation operation, providing the constant air flow rate and the direction of its movement through the mine workings, is carried out at the gaseous mines in the events of the underground fires, the explosions of the gas and dust, the sudden outbursts, the collapse of the rocks in the mine workings; the goal is the prevention of the formations of the dangerous explosive concentrations of the methane. The operation with the decrease of the air supply rate at the constant direction of its movement is used in order to decrease the rate of the development of the underground fires, and of the distribution of the gaseous products of the combustion.
They increase the rate of the air supply, when the gas emission from the massif and the additional inflow of the combustible gases from the dry distillation sharply increase the danger of the explosion. They resort to the reversing standalone operation of the ventilation (the movement of the ventilation flow in the opposite direction, with the change in the quantity of the air which is supplied into the mine) at the time of the fires in the main air supply or other mine workings, in order to provide the fresh air to the people, who are withdrawn from the mine to the surface, and in order to ensure the safe conditions for the performance of the works on the elimination of the fires. The zero standalone ventilation operation (the termination of the air supply) is used at the time of the underground fires at the non-gaseous mines.
The emergency ventilation operations and the methods of their implementation are defined by the plans for the emergency response and the recovery activities.
