BOGOMOLOV, Gerasim Vasilievich

BOGOMOLOV, Gerasim Vasilievich (RU: Богомолов, Герасим Васильевич) is the Soviet scientist in the field of the geology and hydrogeology, the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1960). He is the member of the CPSU since the 1930. He has graduated from the Moscow Mining Academy (1929). Since the 1935, he was the director of the scientific-research office for the hydrogeology and engineering geology; during the 1939-50 and 1953-54, he was the director of the Institute for the hydrogeology and engineering geology; during the 1950-53, he was the deputy minister of the USSR for the geology; since the 1954, he is the deputy academician-secretary of the Section for the geological and geographical sciences within the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR; since the 1961, he is the director of the Institute for the geological sciences within the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR; since the 1964, he is the administrator of the Laboratory within the Institute for the geochemistry and geophysics within the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR.

He has compiled the geologic and tectonic maps of the Byelorussian SSR, has given the forecast for the water resources, participated in the discovery on the territory of the republic of the deposits with the potassium salts and rock salt, and of the petroleum fields. He is the honorary president of the International association for the hydrological sciences (1979). He has been awarded with the State Prize of the USSR for the development of the methods for the fixation of the soils (1947), for the discovery of the Starobin deposit with the potassium salts (1952); he has been awarded with the State Prize of the Byelorussian SSR (1972) for the discovery and exploration of petroleum within Belarus. There has been named after the name of Bogomolov the street within the Soligorsk city.
