Base depot for the explosive substances
BASE STORAGE DEPOT FOR THE EXPLOSIVE SUBSTANCES (EN: depot explosive, base explosive magazine; DE: Sprengstofflager; FR: depot d'explosifs; ES: polvorin; RU: базисный склад взрывчатых веществ) is the set of the storage facilities for the explosive materials (EM), which are obtained from the plants-manufacturers for the supply of the consumption depots with the EM in the factory packaging.
They build the depots for the storage of the EM in accordance with the requirements of the "Unified rules for the safety" according to the projects, which have been approved according to the determined procedure, and they are accepted by the commission of the "Gosgortekhnadzor" (Governmental mining-technical supervision) of the USSR. They sub-divide the base depots for the explosive substances (Figure) into the permanent (the duration of the service is more than 3 years), temporary (up to 3 years), and short timed (up to 1 year); the durations are counted since the time of the delivery of the EM.
The construct the base depots for the explosive substances as the surface based, semi-deepened, and deepened. They refer to the surface ones the depots, the foundations of the storage facilities of which are situated at the level of the surface of the ground, to the semi-deepened the depots, the foundations of which are deepened into the ground for no more than the eaves of the building, to the deepened ones those, when the stratum of the soil above the storage facility amounts to up to 15 metres. The individual storage facilities for the EM on the territory of the base depots for the explosive substances are placed so, that the accidental explosion within one storage facility would not cause the explosion within the other one (see the "Safety distances" article). For this purpose, they construct around the storage facilities the rampart of the plastic or free flowing granular soils. The storage facilities for the EM of the permanent depots are erected of the non-combustible materials; there is provided the reliable system for the airing (the temperature within the enclosed indoor spaces does not exceed 30 degrees Celsius) and for the water insulation, and also the two types of lighting, namely, working one and emergency one. Each storage facility of the depots for the EM has the protection against the lightning. The base depots for the explosive substances are surrounded by the fence, and have the prohibited zone behind it with the width of at least 50 metres; the distance from the fence to the wall of the storage facility is at least 40 metres. During the designing of the mining enterprise, they compute the volume capacity of the base depots for the explosive substances in terms of the tonnes according to the formula:
N is the annual volume of the rock mass, which is blasted at the enterprise, which is being designed, cubic metres;
q is the average specific consumption of the explosive substances, kilograms per cubic metre;
K is the average annual quantity of the deliveries of the explosive substances into the depot.
The largest capacity of the base depot for the explosive substances usually does not exceed the three months needs. Depending on the type of the EM, the largest storage capacity of the individual storage facilities of the base depot for the explosive substances amounts to: 60 tonnes for the explosive substances with the content of the liquid nitric esters of more than 15%, non-phlegmatized RDX, tetryl; 240 tonnes for the ammonium nitrate explosive substances, TNT and its alloys with other nitro compounds, explosive substances with the content of the liquid nitric esters of up to 15%, phlegmatized RDX; 130 tonnes for the black and smokeless gunpowders; 120 tonnes for the detonating cord and detonators (the mass with the tare weight); without restriction for the fuse cord.
The base depot for the explosive substances, is, as a rule, the independent administrative-economic unit, which is under the subordination of the consortia, combined enterprises, or specialized enterprises. Each depot has the laboratories and testing grounds for the testing of the EM.
