Babazade, Baba Kurban Kuli oglu

BABAZADE, Baba Kurban Kuli oglu (RU: Бабазаде, Баба Курбан Кули оглы) is the Soviet geologist, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1959), the Hero of the Socialistic Labour (1944). He is the member of the CPSU since the 1939. He was the deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR during the 1951-62. He has graduated during the 1934 from the Azerbaijan industrial institute (now the Azerbaijan institute of oil and chemistry named after M.Azizbekov). He was the chief geologist of the "Azneft" consortium (1953-62). Under the leadership of Babazade, there have been discovered within Azerbaijan the series of the oil and gas fields, namely, the Kala (1936), Buzovny (1940), Maştağa (1944), and also the reservoirs of oil within the Kali (formation) stratigraphic suite. He perfected the theory for the forming of reservoirs of oil and gas, their classification and methodology for the prospecting, exploration, and development. He has been awarded with the State Prize of the USSR (1947) for the discovery of the Buzovny-Maştağa oil field. There has been named with the name of Babazade the geological structure within the Caspian sea.
