"Azeyskiy" open pit coal mine
The plan of the direct overcasting without the transport with the usage of the walking dragline excavator.
"AZEYSKIY" is the open pit coal mine, which has been named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR, and belongs to the "VostSibUgol" productive amalgamation. It is located at 400 kilometres to the north-west from the Irkutsk city, in the Irkutsk coal basin. The first phase of the enterprise (the annual productive capacity of 4 million tonnes) has been put into the operation in 1969, the second phase (4 million tonnes) has been put into the operation in 1972.
There are developed two horizontal seams with the complex structure; the thicknes of the first seam is 1.5-8.2 metres, the thickness of the second seam is 1.5-13.3 metres. The distance between the seams is up to 10 metres. The extracted coal is brown: the average ash content is 19%, the humidity is 25%, the content of sulfur is 0.5%, the specific heat of combustion of the working fuel is 16.9 megajoules per kilogram. The thickness of the overburden is from 3 to 40 metres. The average stripping ratio is 3.2 cubic metres per tonne. The stripping of the overburden is by the capital paired trenches of the external laying. The system of the development is the direct overcasting without the transport, with the usage of the walking dragline excavators for the stripping of the overburden (Figure), and with the usage of the rotor excavators for the extraction of the coal. The traction machines for the transportation of the coal are the railroad diesel locomotives. The average daily extraction is 27.5 thousand tonnes, the annual volume of the stripping works is 11.5 million cubic metres (1978).
