AVERSHIN STEPAN GAVRILOVICH
AVERSHIN, STEPAN GAVRILOVICH (RU: Авершин Степан Гаврилович) is the soviet scientist in the field of the mining science, the academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR (since 1961).
He has graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Geodesy and Land Use Planning (1926) and LGI (Leningrad Mining Institute) (1931). In the 1932-41 and 1944-61, he worked in the VNIMI (the Institute of the Mining Geomechanic and the Surveying Trade) (the name was the Central Research Surveying Bureau until 1945), which has been created with his participation (he was the deputy director in 1945-61). He was the vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the Kirghiz SSR (1965-72).
He has laid the foundations of the soviet scientific school of thought on the process of the shifting of the rocks and the Earth surface, as well as on the causes and mechanism of the rock bursts under the influence of the underground mining.
The State Prize of the USSR (1948) has been awarded to him for the monograph "The shift of the rocks at the time of the underground mining" (Wiley, 1947), The State Prize of he USSR (1971) has been awarded to him for the study of the rock bursts.
