"Asarco"

"ASARCO" ("Asarco Inc.", RU: "Асарко") is the ore mining monopoly of the USA. It has been founded within the New Jersey state in the 1899 under the name of the "American Smelting and Refining Co.", and since the 1975, it is named the "Asarco". It performs the extraction and beneficiation of the ores of the non-ferrous metals, and production of the silver, copper, lead, zinc, gold, molybdenum, and by-products.

"Asarco" holds the 1st place in the extraction of the silver ores, and the 2nd place within the USA in the extraction of the copper ores. The share of the "Asarco" among the extraction of the industrially developed capitalistic and developing countries is (1981, %): silver ore is 13, copper ore is 8, lead ore is 9, zinc ore is 8. The silver ore is extracted within the USA (Idaho, Montana states), and also within the Australia and Peru. "Asarco" purchases 85% of the silver-containing ore, which is processed. The volume of the sales of silver is 308.4 million dollars (1981). The copper ore is extracted at the Sacaton, Casa Grande, San Xavier, and Silver Bell deposits (Arizona state). Besides this, "Asarco" has the investments into the capital of the companies, which are extracting copper ore within the Australia, Mexico, Peru, and purchases 70% of the ore, which is processed. The volume of the sales of copper is 394.8 million dollars (1981). The lead ore is extracted within the USA within the New Mexico and Colorado states (Leadville deposit), within the Canada (Bachan deposit), Bolivia, Australia, and Mexico. "Asarco" purchases 95% of the ore, which is processed. The volume of the sales of lead is 101.9 million dollars (1981). The zinc deposits are: New Market, Young and others (Tennessee state), and also within the Australia and Mexico. The monopoly purchases 40% of the zinc ore, which is processed. The volume of the sales of zinc is 53.1 million dollars (1981). "Asarco" is also engaged in the extraction of the coal, asbestos, molybdenum, in the production of the by-products (antimony, arsenic, bismuth, cadmium, gold, indium, selenium, tellurium, thallium, palladium, platinum). During the 80-ies, the quantity of the employees at the "Asarco" enterprises was 12.7 thousand persons.
