# Analog simulation

ANALOG SIMULATION (EN: analog simulation, direct analogy simulation; DE: Analogmodellierung; FR: simulation analogique; ES: simulacion analogica; RU: аналоговое моделирование) is based on the analogy of the phenomena and processes, which have the different physical nature, but are described by the identical mathematical (differential, algebraical, logical, and other) equations.

Analog simulation is performed with the analog computers (RU: AVM, Analogovaya Vychislitelnaya Mashina, Аналоговая Вычислительная Машина), within which the instantaneous value of the quantity, which is computed by the machine, is put into correspondence with each instantaneous value of the original variable quantity. Within the AVM, the certain physical tendency, which is expressing the mathematical relationships between the physical quantities at the input and output of the problem solving device, usually corresponds to each elementary mathematical operation with the quantities, which are computed by the machine. Depending on the nature of the machine quantity, they distinguish the types of the analog simulation, namely, the mechanical, pneumatical, hydraulical, electrical-hydraulical, electrical-mechanical, electronical, and others. The electronic AVM have got the most wide distribution, because they are characterized by the speed of actions and ease of programming.

The major applications of the analog simulation for the mining craft are: the monitoring and control, namely, the determination of the laws of the control and calculation of the synthetic parametres of the productive process (efficiency, power, performance, and others), and also the automatic control of the working machines (coal combines, drilling rigs, movable roof supports, ventilation installations, and others); the anticipatory analysis, namely, the prognosis of the control signals, and the selection of the optimal modes of the technological processes for the extraction of minerals on the basis of the analysis of the large diversity of variants, which are differing by the values of the control parametres of the process; the synthesis of the systems of control and regulation, namely, the choice of the optimal structure of the variable part of the system, of the functional dependencies of the required type, and of the values of the major parametres according to the given technical conditions of the proceeding of the technological process; the research of the dynamics of the systems of control and regulation, namely, the finding of the optimal values of the parametres of the technological process on the basis of the solving of the equations of the object within the selected time scale; the determination of the control signals, namely, the isolation of the useful and perturbing components within the measured signal on the basis of the solving of the differential equations of the dynamic system and according to the experimental nature of the change of the output quantity; and others.

They use the analog simulation also for the study of the processes of the heat transfer within rocks, for the evaluation of their stress-strain deformed state, and others.
