AERIAL CURTAIN (EN: air curtain, aerial screen; DE: Luftschleier; FR: rideau d'air; ES: cortina de aire; RU: воздушная завеса) is the flow of the air within the mine working, which is directed at the certain angle relatively to the major ventilation stream.
The major purpose of the aerial curtain is the regulation of the air distribution within the ventilation network of the underground mine using the method of the creation of the additional aerodynamic drag.
They also use the aerial curtain for the fight against the leakages of the air within the buildings above the underground mine, for the localization of the spreading of the dust within the mine workings, and for the increasing of the effectiveness of the ventilation for the sucking of the dust within the preparatory stopes.
The aerial curtain is created with the help of the metallic box, which is ending with the slit, and which is connected with the special ventilator, or with the trunk pipeline for the compressed air.
They usually construct the aerial curtain at the points of the branching of the ventilation network, where is required the periodic change of the expenditure of the air, or the complete termination of the movement of the air. The major advantages of the aerial curtain as the ventilation regulator for the ventilation system within the underground mine are the absence of the obstacles against the movement of the people and of the means of the transport, the possibility of the automation, and the flexibility of the regulation of the air flows. The action of the aerial curtain is effective in case of the relatively small differential pressures of the air within the mine workings (up to 150 pascals).
